Ingredients
Units
Scale
- 300 g soft tofu (or silken tofu)
- 2 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari)
- 1 tsp gochujang (can use chili crisp or chili garlic sauce)*
- 2 tsp maple syrup (or 1/2 tsp sugar)
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- 2 tsp ginger, minced or grated
- 1 clove garlic, minced or grated
- 2 tsp sesame seeds, toasted (to garnish)
- Garlic chives, sliced (or green onion, to garnish)*
*Ingredients you need that are not part of our pantry and freezer tips.
Instructions
- *If your sesame seeds are not toasted, toast them on a dry pan over low heat for a few minutes until lightly browned and fragrant. Set aside.
- Add all of the sauce ingredients to a small bowl and whisk to combine. *If you are making the sauce days in advance I recommend cooking the garlic in a dash of oil for a couple of minutes to keep it safe.
- If serving the soft tofu cold: simply turn it out onto a plate, slicing it if desired, and pour the sauce over top.
- Alternatively, if you would like to serve the soft tofu warm: bring enough water to a boil so it will cover the tofu. Once boiling, heavily salt the water and carefully lower the tofu into the water. Poach for 3 minutes and then carefully remove the tofu and drizzle it with the sauce.
- Garnish with the toasted sesame seeds and sliced garlic chives or green onion. Serve with rice, vegetables, and/or a salad for a full meal.
Notes
Approximate Cost: $3.00 Canadian. 300 grams of soft tofu typically costs us $2.29 and the sauce and garnishes make up the remainder of the cost.
