Description

Soft, warm, sauteed cinnamon apples. Quick, only 4 ingredients, and perfect for topping pancakes, oatmeal, french toast, and ice cream!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 apples cored and thinly sliced (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/2 tsp vegan butter (optional)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp maple syrup

*All the ingredients for this recipe are from our pantry and freezer tips!

Instructions

*You can use any apple variety. If serving these for company as a dessert it is best to choose a firm apple variety like Honeycrisp, Golden Delicious, Gala, or Granny Smith. A softer apple might fall apart more easily.

  1. If using fresh apples, cut them into quarters, remove the core, then slice thinly.
  2. Preheat a skillet over medium heat and melt the butter. *If you’re using frozen apple slices they will let out quite a bit of water as they cook so there’s no need for the butter.
  3. If using butter, once it starts to sizzle add the apple slices to the skillet and stir. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring frequently until nice and softened. If using frozen apple slices you can drain the liquid that is released if you’d like; but I like to keep it saucy. *If your skillet has a lid you can cover the apples to speed up the cooking time, stirring occasionally.
  4. Sprinkle the cinnamon over the apples and stir until they are nicely coated. Drizzle the maple syrup and cook, stirring, for another minute or so.
  5. Remove from heat and serve immediately. They are perfect on oatmeal, pancakes, desserts, or with a scoop of ice cream!

Notes

*Cost Comparison: CAD $0.74

*If using frozen apple slices, you can drain the liquid they release during cooking or keep it as a nice “cinnamony” sauce!

*Feel free to add more maple syrup if you like your apples sweeter or are using a variety of apple that is more sour.

*If you don’t have maple syrup on hand, sub with 1-2 tsp cane sugar or any sweetener of your choice.
