Description

This homemade vegan spicy mayo recipe is adapted from our 5 minute oil-free mayo! Two simple ingredients add that spicy mayo flavour you love!

Ingredients

Units Scale

5 Minute Oil Free Mayo (makes 1 ¼ cups)

  • 300g silken tofu
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp rice vinegar (or apple cider vinegar)
  • 1/4 tsp wasabi or 1/21 tsp mustard powder
  • 1/8 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/8 tsp sea salt

Spicy Mayo (for every ¼ cup of mayo add the following)

  • 2 1/2 tsp chilli garlic sauce (less or more to taste, can substitute with sriracha sauce)
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil

*All the ingredients for this recipe are from our pantry and freezer tips!

Instructions

  1. To make the oil-free mayo add the tofu, lemon juice, vinegar, wasabi, garlic powder, and sea salt to your blender. Blend until smooth (stopping to scrape down the sides of your blender if needed). *Alternatively, try whisking the ingredients by hand if you don’t have a machine.
  2. To make the whole batch of mayo into spicy mayo you can add about 4 tbsp chilli garlic sauce and 2.5 tsp sesame oil (I would start with less spice, taste, and add more as desired). I find the ratio of 2.5 tsp chilli garlic sauce and ½ tsp sesame oil works really well in ¼ cup batches but start with a lesser amount and adjust it to your taste.
  3. The mayo will be thick enough to use immediately but if you allow it to chill in the fridge for at least 2 hours it will thicken even more. Try our spicy mayo drizzled over our Spicy “Tuna” Watermelon Poke Bowl!
  4. If you only use some of the mayo as a spicy mayo you can reserve the rest for use in recipes like our Like Lobster Roll, our Summery Coleslaw, or turn it into a chipotle mayo and serve alongside sweet potato fries. The possibilities are endless!
  5. Store in the fridge in an air-tight container for about 1 week.

Notes

Approximate Cost: CAD $2.15 for base mayo plus an extra $0.15 for every ¼ cup made into spicy mayo. Roughly $2.90 ($0.97/100ml) to make the whole batch into spicy mayo.

Store-bought spicy mayo from our local grocery store would cost us roughly: $2.40/100ml.
