Description
A refreshing watermelon slushie recipe to cool you down! You can omit the ginger for the kids but keep the extra zing for the adults!
Ingredients
- 4 cups frozen watermelon (520 g)*
- 1 small lime, juiced*
- 2 tsp maple syrup (or more as desired)
- 1 tsp ginger, grated
- 1/2 cup water, if needed to loosen (can use sparkling water, kombucha, or an alcoholic beverage of choice)
*Fresh ingredients you need that are not part of our pantry and freezer tips.
Instructions
- Add the frozen watermelon to a blender and allow to defrost for at least 5 minutes.
- Squeeze in the lime and add the maple syrup and ginger. (Feel free to omit the ginger for kids who may not like the sharper taste).
- Pulse the blender to break down the watermelon and add as much liquid as you need to reach your desired slushie consistency. The heat produced by the blender will melt the slushie more as you blend and you may need to scrape the blender down to move the mixture around and encourage it to melt.
- Scoop the slushie into glasses. Serve with a straw (and spoon if desired) plus any garnishes like a fresh watermelon wedge, slice of lime, or fresh mint.
Notes
Approximate Cost: A single serving of this slushie will likely cost me around $2 when watermelon is in season and at its lowest cost. If we were to purchase a single slushie our cost would range from $2 - $5 depending on whether it is from a gas station/convenience store or a specialty ice cream shop. This can be a thrifty way to offer a fun and naturally sweetened cool treat!
A flavoured sparkling water, kombucha, or even a bit of an alcoholic beverage for the adults can be a fun way to play with the flavour of this recipe and make it your own!
