Iced Matcha Latte - Cool Down And Perk Up

Maybe it's the colour but there's something about an iced matcha that feels even more cooling on a warm day than an iced coffee. Make this iced matcha latte recipe to suit your favourite milk, your preferred sweetness, and your perfect amount of ice!

Has a gentler caffeine pick me up than coffee
A smooth, creamy taste
Light sweetness
Just dissolve the matcha, stir it in, and go!

How To Make An Iced Matcha Latte

We had been making our hot matcha latte for quite awhile before we tried it iced. And well... we're glad we tried this!

The process is exactly the same except for... not having to heat the milk!

  1. Scoop 1 ¼ teaspoon matcha powder into a small dish,
  2. Add 1 tablespoon hot water,
  3. And 1 tablespoon maple syrup (less or more as desired),
  4. Then use a matcha whisk or a wire whisk to dissolve the match in the water and sweetener.

To your glass...

  1. Add as much ice as you like.
  2. Fill with your preferred milk.
  3. Pour in the matcha mixture.
  4. Stir.
  5. And enjoy!

A Matcha Whisk

You certainly don't need a specific matcha whisk to make this recipe.

We made matcha for quite awhile before we decided to buy a bamboo whisk. We found the bamboo whisk:

  • Is gentler on the delicate powder.
  • Dissolves the matcha quicker and more evenly.
  • Creates nice foam which makes for a smoother, creamier flavour.
  • The whisk is easy to maintain and long lasting.

If you will be making matcha regularly and can invest in the whisk we definitely think it is worth it. Especially since matcha powder is a little pricer... we prefer to enjoy it at its best!

We always clean our whisk right away by just running it under some warm water, shaking the excess water off, and letting the whisk air dry before putting it back in the sturdy container it came in. After 2 years it still looks brand new, with no staining, and no damaged prongs.

3Leaf has a helpful blog on matcha whisks, why they are traditionally used, how to care for them, and best alternatives if you don't have one!

Recipe Cost

This iced matcha latte recipe costs us approximately: CAD $1.27 using matcha powder purchased from our wholesale store.

If you have access to a wholesale store that sells matcha powder it will likely be your thriftiest option.

If we make this latte with matcha purchased from our bulk store it adds $0.22.
And a higher priced, cold brew specific matcha powder from a health store would add: $1.43 to our recipe cost.

*Even the highest priced matcha powder produces savings when compared to purchasing a matcha latte from a cafe (usually around CAD $4.25 for us).

Just bought some matcha and wanted to have it iced. This tasted just like the ones I buy do and making it myself is so much cheaper. Thank you for the simple instructions. Can't wait to have it again tomorrow.
