I’ve been making this party mix around the holidays for quite a few years now and it’s always a hit! Quickly melt six simple ingredients for the seasoning mixture. Pour it over your favourite combination of cereal, pretzels, nuts etc. Bake it for one hour and you have an addictive easy vegan party mix that everyone is sure to love!
Simple To Make
Just 10 Ingredients
Easily Customizable
A Bit Of Spice
Crunchy
Toasty
A Bit Of Garlic…
And You’ll Want To Make A Double Batch!
Best Cereals To Use
A great thing about party mix, chex mix, nuts and bolts… is that you can toss in whatever you like best!
I use a combination of:
- Cheerios (plain or whole wheat)
- Shreddies
- Quaker Corn Squares (my favourite in this mixture!)
- And Pretzel Sticks
A couple handy tips:
- Make sure the cereal you buy doesn’t have any add-in’s (like granola clusters etc). Sifting through the cereal to only get the bits you want can be a bit of a headache.
- I also like to avoid cereal with strong flavours like Honey Nut Cheerios but you can absolutely use those if you want a sweeter party mix!
*In order to keep the cost lower for this party mix I haven’t included any nuts. You can absolutely add in some roasted peanuts or a medley of your favourite nuts!
Make The Seasoning
This easy vegan party mix seasoning is made with 6 pantry friendly ingredients. I use:
- Vegan Butter
- Worcestershire Sauce (not all brands are vegan. See below for an alternative)
- Chilli Garlic Sauce
- A Bit Of Salt
- Smoked Paprika
- And A Touch Of Cane Sugar
- Vegan worcestershire sauce can be a bit harder to find and will likely be a little more costly than traditional worcestershire sauce. An alternative can be tamari or soy sauce. BUT those options are higher in sodium so I would suggest starting with just 2 tbsps instead of 3 and omitting the additional ½ teaspoon salt in this recipe. You can give your melted mixture a bit of a taste and add in more tamari if you don’t find it too salty.
I love using chilli garlic sauce for this easy vegan party mix seasoning. Chilli garlic sauce is a staple condiment in our fridge because it’s a great way to add some spice and some garlic all in one! Take a look at our Pantry Tips page to see how we minimize the condiments in our fridge to only the most versatile!
If you don’t have chilli garlic sauce you can use your favourite hot sauce and add in some minced garlic or garlic powder to achieve a similar flavour.
How Easy Is This Party Mix Recipe
To make the seasoning mixture:
- Just melt the butter in a small pot over low heat
- Add in the other seasonings
- And remove the pot from the heat!
I find the easiest way to coat my cereal and pretzels in the seasoning is to separate the cereal mixture into two large bowls.
I put 1 ½ cups of each ingredient in each bowl so I have more room to toss the mixture in the seasoning.
After portioning out my cereal and pretzels:
- I pour half the melted seasoning mixture over one bowl of the party mix,
- Use a spoon or my hands to move the party mix around,
- And make sure all the pieces are coated in the seasoning mixture.
Then… I do the same with the other bowl of party mix and the remaining half of the seasoning.
How Long To Bake It
I spread the seasoned party mix on two large baking sheets.
*I like using silicone mats to line the baking sheet because the mats won’t move around when you stir your party mix. You can certainly use parchment paper and just be a little more careful when you stir the mixture.
Preheat your oven to 275 degrees F and bake the party mix for one hour.
Set a timer for 15 minutes and give the mixture a stir every 15 minutes of the baking time. This way you make sure the party mix will be tossed three times throughout the baking time and it will toast more evenly. You can rotate the baking sheets each time as well.
Storing Your Vegan Party Mix
When your party mix is done…
- Allow it to cool completely on the baking sheets,
- Then store it in an airtight container or bag for up to 2 weeks if it survives that long!
I love to make big batches of this easy vegan party mix around the holidays and gift it to my friends and family.
Recipe Cost
Since I know I will make this recipe every holiday season I keep an eye on the prices of the cereal and pretzels and make sure I snatch them up when they go on sale.
This recipe makes approximately 585 grams of party mix and costs us roughly: CAD $8.24.
I find that this homemade version does cost more than if I were to purchase a party mix from our wholesale store and is slightly more cost effective than purchasing a party mix from our local grocery store. Our vegan butter in this recipe actually costs us slightly less than using dairy butter… so in that sense it’s a win!
Although there may be more cost effective ways to buy a party mix… I find that people love this homemade version and it feels more special and thoughtful around the holidays.
Let me know if you give this party mix a try and if you customize it to include your favourite ingredients! And if you like crunchy snacks… try our Chilli Miso Roasted Chickpeas too!
PrintEasy Vegan Party Mix Recipe – 10 Ingredients
- Total Time: 70 minutes
- Yield: 585g 1x
- Diet: Vegan
Description
This easy vegan party mix is my go to! 10 ingredients, so easy to make, and it’s always a crowd-pleaser! Keep it nut-free or add some in!
Ingredients
- 3 cups plain or whole wheat Cheerios (95g)*
- 3 cups Quaker Corn Squares (138g)*
- 3 cups plain Shreddies (160g)*
- 3 cups pretzel sticks (120g)*
- ½ cup vegan butter
- 3 tbsp vegan worcestershire sauce (see notes for an alternative)
- 1 ½ tsp chili garlic sauce (or hot sauce and minced garlic to taste)
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp smoked paprika
- ¼ – ½ teaspoon cane sugar
*Ingredients you need that are not part of our pantry and freezer tips.
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 275 degrees F. Prepare two baking sheets with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
- Use two large bowls and divide each of the cereals and the pretzels between each (1 ½ cup of each ingredient in each bowl). Using two bowls will make it easier to stir in the seasoning.
- In a small saucepan, heat the vegan butter, worcestershire, chili garlic sauce, salt, paprika, and sugar until the butter is just melted. Remove the mixture from the heat and pour half of the mixture into the first bowl of party mix. Quickly stir to evenly coat all the party mix. Repeat by adding the other half of the butter mixture into the second bowl of party mix.
- Spread the party mix onto the two prepared baking sheets.
- Bake at 275 degrees F for 1 hour. Stirring and rotating the trays every 15 minutes to ensure even baking.
- Allow the mix to cool and then store in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
Notes
Approximate Cost: CAD $8.24 for 585g (roughly $1.40/100g). We find the cost of this recipe to be pricier than purchasing a party mix from our wholesale store and slightly more cost effective than purchasing a party mix from our local grocery store. Our vegan butter costs us $1.60 for this recipe vs. ½ cup dairy butter costing us roughly $1.67.
Vegan worcestershire sauce can be a little harder to find and will likely be a little pricier than regular worcestershire sauce. You can replace the worcestershire with tamari or soy sauce but as there is more sodium in those replacements start with just 2 tablespoon and you can likely remove the ½ teaspoon additional salt. Give your melted seasoning mixture a bit of a taste and add more tamari or soy sauce if you don’t find it too salty.
Feel free to add in nuts if you’d like, use cereals that you like best, and tweak the seasoning to suit your taste. You can add more chilli garlic sauce or hot sauce for a spicier mix or sub in maple syrup or more cane sugar for a sweeter mix.

Eugene
We have been making this around the holidays and for family parties for the last few years and it’s now a request by all the extended family. I make sure to grab all the cereal when it’s on sale so we can make a triple batch and gift it. Everyone loves the flavour and although we’re now stuck making this forever more Kathryn… we don’t mind.
