Ooooo mango and mint! I know green smoothies take some getting used to... and this one really looks like pesto... BUT this mango mint green smoothie is:

Delightfully Sweet
Refreshingly Minty
Has A Hint Of Ginger
And I Dare You To Not Drink It All Up!

The Colour

I definitely scrunched my nose up to green smoothies before I tried one! I've never been a fan of drinking vegetables... tomato juice... nuh uh. But... tomato juice with carrot... getting better... there's some sweetness in there.

So, the trick for me is adding enough natural sweetness to overpower the veggie and not make me feel like I'm drinking cold soup.

  • Spinach packs the green into this smoothie
  • Frozen banana delivers creamy sweetness
  • Frozen mango gives that tropical tartness
  • Mint lightens everything up with tasty freshness
  • And ginger rounds out the flavour while boosting your health

A great way to trick yourself, or your kids, into drinking smoothies that may not look that appetizing but taste great is to:

Pour the smoothie into a cup you can't see through and snap a lid on.

This way you taste the smoothie without focusing on the colour. Eventually, you, or your kids, will get used to the colour because you know the smoothie will be sweet and tasty!

Recipe Cost For Mango Mint Green Smoothie

This smoothie recipe costs us approximately: CAD $4.17 ($2.09/serving). Buying a smoothie out will cost us roughly $4-$6 each so the savings are definitely worth making it at home!

The spinach is the priciest part of this recipe for us so you could always ease into the greenness by omitting the spinach and replacing it with pineapple or more mango and keeping the mint in there. You'll get just a hint of green but all the delicious minty freshness.

Why Use Spinach

As we add more and more recipes to Tasty, Thrifty, Timely, you probably won't notice a ton of leafy salads... perhaps my tastes will change, but I'm just not the biggest fan of salad.

If it has an interesting dressing, is loaded with fun ingredients, or topped with our crunchy croutons... sure. But throwing together a quick salad everyday, or every few days, to get some greens in just doesn't happen for me.

This is where smoothies come in! We often add leafy greens to pastas, soups, and main dishes; but if it's been a couple of days and I feel like I haven't had much green... I pop it in a fruit smoothie, can't taste it, and get all the benefits! Now that's a win for me.

Feel free to use your favourite leafy green if spinach is not what you have on hand. I happen to be allergic to kale, the trendiest of leafy superfoods, but I'm sure it would pack even more green beauty in here.

This healthline article lists the leafy greens and their nutritional benefits in case you need some more help working up the nerve to pinch your nose, close your eyes, and take a sip of a green smoothie.
