This vegan avocado lime crema recipe is so easy to blend up and instantly boosts our meals up a notch. I love when simple homemade dressings, or in this case a crema, can take a meal from tasty... to really feeling like a treat. It's:

Ready in 3 minutes
Just 3 ingredients
Bright
Fresh
Fancy
And filling!

3 Ingredients Needed For This Avocado Crema

You may have already guessed just by the name of this recipe, but all you need is:

An avocado,
Lime juice,
And sour cream

Adding a bit of salt helps the flavours shine through to their fullest and adding water will thin the crema to your desired consistency.

If you are like us and you don't tend to have sour cream on hand... take a look at our 4 Ingredient Dairy-Free Sour Cream. It's made with just cashews, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and some salt!

We love being able to blend up this easy "sour cream" with pantry friendly ingredients that we always have on hand. I often make this avocado lime crema recipe when I have avocados that are getting soft quicker than I expected! Instead of having to run out to buy sour cream... I can blend up this dairy-free recipe in 20 minutes. Oh... and that 20 minutes includes the 15 minutes it takes to quick soak the cashews!

How To Make Avocado Lime Crema

If you are new to buying avocados, jump to our blog post for our super tasty Timely Guacamole recipe. I delve into a bit more detail about how to buy avocados, how to tell if they are ripe enough to slice into, and how to slice them once they are ready.

For this recipe, I use only half the avocado to yield about ½ cup of crema. Feel free to double the recipe and use up your whole avocado OR if your avocado is quite small, I recommend using the whole avocado.

  1. Slice your large avocado in half and use the half without the pit.
  2. Scoop the flesh out with a spoon and add it to a blender.
  3. Add in the sour cream,
  4. Lime juice from concentrate OR freshly squeezed if you have fresh limes,
  5. And salt.
  6. Blend together and add water as needed to thin the crema to your desired consistency.
  7. Taste and adjust as desired, adding more salt, lime juice, or other seasonings if you prefer!

Recipe Cost

Living in Canada, avocados are on the pricier end of the fruits we buy and the cost of this recipe will certainly vary depending on where you are located. BUT we have priced out this vegan avocado lime crema to typically costing us:

  • CAD $1.58 using our homemade 4 Ingredient Sour Cream.
  • And $1.70 using a store-bought plant based sour cream.

If we were to make this recipe using a traditional dairy sour cream our cost would be roughly: CAD $1.48.

What do you think? Will you be serving this crema with your next tacos or fresh bowls? We love it on our delicious Sweet Potato Black Bean Tacos!

Make sure to let us know in the comments below how you use your crema and if you make your sour cream from scratch! Get creative and use it as a burger topping or thin it out even more and make it a salad dressing!

Oh... and if you're feeling like a really fresh meal... chop up some 5 minute Salsa Fresca!

Description

3 ingredients and 3 minutes are all you need for this vegan avocado lime crema to brighten up any dish! Creamy, tangy, and so easy!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • ½ large avocado*
  • ¼ cup sour cream (try our easy 4 Ingredient Sour Cream!)*
  • 1 lime, juiced (about 2 tbsp)
  • Sprinkle of salt
  • 2-3 tablespoon cold water to thin (add more or less as desired)

*Ingredients you need that are not part of our pantry and freezer tips.

Instructions

  1. Slice your avocado in half lengthwise. If only using half the avocado, use the half without the pit and store the other half with the pit intact. You can rub some lime juice on the exposed flesh and store it in a container with a lid or something like a vegetable wrap to slow the browning. *If your avocado is quite small, I would suggest using the whole avocado for this recipe.
  2. If removing the pit, gently squeeze the sides of the avocado to loosen it (or carefully strike the pit with a knife so the knife lodges in the pit and then twist to dislodge it and pull it up).
  3. Use a spoon to trace the edges of the halved avocado and scoop out the flesh.
  4. Add the avocado, sour cream, lime juice, and salt to your blender and blend until smooth (adding water as needed). The amount of water you use may depend on how thick your sour cream is.
  5. If you don’t have a blender and your avocado is ripe enough you should be able to mash it by hand and stir in the other ingredients until you reach your desired consistency!
  6. Best enjoyed immediately but it will last for 1-2 days in the fridge. Make sure to try it on our delicious Sweet Potato Black Bean Tacos!

Notes

Approximate Cost: CAD $1.58 using ¼ cup of our 4 Ingredient Sour Cream. Approximately $1.70 using a store-bought plant based sour cream and $1.48 using a store-bought dairy sour cream.
