This is my go to garlic bread whenever I want a super quick accompaniment to weeknight pasta dishes. All you really need is the bread, a bit of vegan butter, and a sprinkling of garlic powder for a delicious crunchy side! Feel free to top this easy vegan garlic bread with any herbs or vegan cheese you have on hand.

Ingredients For Easy Vegan Garlic Bread

I am most often a purist when it comes to this easy vegan garlic bread. I love keeping it super simple with just three ingredients:

  1. Your Bread Of Choice
  2. Vegan Butter
  3. And Garlic Powder

If I'm feeling fancy I'll sprinkle on:

  • Dried herbs like basil or oregano
  • Any fresh herbs I have on hand (sprinkle them on after the bread is broiled so they don't burn)
  • Or any vegan cheese substitutes I might have

How Quick Is This Easy Garlic Bread

Using your broiler to toast this garlic bread means that it is ready in just 2 minutes! BUT... that also means you need to watch the bread closely because it will toast so quickly.

Simply:

  1. Slice your bread into however many pieces you would like.
  2. Spread your desired amount of vegan butter on the slices.
  3. Sprinkle with garlic powder.
  4. Add any additional toppings (herbs, cheese substitutes etc.)
  5. And carefully place under the broiler for roughly 2 minutes until golden and toasted around the edges.

Best Bread To Use

You can really use whatever kind of bread you like/have on hand.

I most often use:

  • Baguettes
  • Hard Crusty Loaves (like sourdough)
  • And I often toast Indian naan bread in this way too!

I tend to avoid using:

  • Regular soft white sandwich bread
  • Burger or hot dog buns

BUT I have absolutely used leftover hot dog buns, rolls, or ciabatta buns. Any bread will toast well, the differences will be in the taste of the bread itself and the thickness of what you're using.

Hot dog/burger buns tend to be more sweet so the garlic bread will retain a softer texture and a sweeter taste. Using buns or rolls sometimes means that the slice of bread is much denser. In this case, the buttery taste won't penetrate all the way through the bun.

But hey! For those quick weeknight meals... sometimes you just have to use what you have on hand/need to clear out from your fridge or freezer.

Softer Garlic Bread

I love this quick method of using my broiler to toast the garlic bread BUT it does make the bread crunchy.

If you prefer a softer garlic bread then consider:

  • Baking the easy garlic bread at 375 degrees F for 6-10 minutes. Bake the slices just long enough so that the butter is nicely melted, the bread is warmed through, and it has a light golden colour.

Recipe Cost

The cost of this recipe really comes down to the type of bread you are using. I love that this is an easy weeknight side that I can whip up in just a few minutes and I don't necessarily need to spend extra money on the toppings.

Vegan butter, garlic powder, and dried herbs like basil are always on hand. Check out our pantry and freezer tips page to see what ingredients we always have in our kitchen for making quick and delicious meals any anytime possibility!

Using one fresh baguette our cost for this recipe is roughly: CAD $2.19

Description

My go to easy vegan garlic bread! Ready in minutes & perfect for weeknights. Using garlic powder cuts out the fuss & it's so darn delicious!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 baguette, or bread of choice*
  • 2 tbsp vegan butter
  • 1 ½ - 2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried basil or other herbs, optional

*Ingredients you need that are not part of our pantry and freezer tips.

Instructions

  1. Slice your baguette in half lengthwise and then into thirds (or slice your bread into however many pieces you would like).
  2. Spread the vegan butter onto the slices and sprinkle with garlic powder and any herbs of choice.
  3. Transfer the slices to a sheet pan and place under your broiler for roughly 2 minutes until browned around the edges and crispy (watching very carefully as they will toast really quickly). Alternatively, for a softer garlic bread, you can bake the slices at 375 degrees F for 6 - 10 minutes until golden and warmed through.

Notes

Approximate Cost: CAD $2.19.

Feel free to add any additional toppings like fresh herbs or vegan cheese substitutes. If using fresh herbs, sprinkle them on when the bread comes out of the oven to avoid them burning. If using a vegan cheese substitute you way want to bake the garlic bread for a few minutes first to help the cheese melt and then switch your oven to broil to crisp up the garlic bread.
