Ingredients For This Easy BBQ Sauce
This BBQ sauce from scratch is made from ingredients that are easy to store in your pantry. We love using stewed tomatoes as opposed to ketchup and we keep this recipe mustard free too! Mustard makes its way into many sauces and dressings so if you’re like me and you have a strange mustard allergy… not to fear! Making your own is quick, easy, and so tasty!
- Stewed or Crushed Tomatoes
- Tomato Paste (store leftovers in the freezer and scoop out as you need!)
- Apple cider vinegar
- Worcestershire sauce
- Molasses
- Liquid smoke, paprika, and cumin for the seasonings
- And chipotle peppers in adobo sauce for all that spicy barbecue taste!
*I always avoided using tomato paste in recipes because they always seemed to call for 1-2 tablespoons and the rest of the can would go to waste. Storing leftover tomato paste was a game changer for me! Simply scoop it into a freezer safe jar and scrape out what you need whenever a recipe calls for a small amount!
The Spicy BBQ Flavour
These ingredients are some of our favourite flavour boosters to have on hand!
I would never add chipotle peppers or adobo sauce when I would come across them in recipes. I never had a can on hand and would just replace the heat with another ingredient. You can absolutely make this BBQ sauce with a different spicy ingredient like cayenne pepper or opt for a sweeter sauce with maple syrup. BUT!!! Once I took the leap and decided to buy a can… I was hooked. Talk about flavour booster!
The chipotle peppers are the star! They just smell like barbecue. They taste like barbecue. And they are so easy to keep in your pantry. The best part is… they keep well in the fridge once opened! Whenever we open a can and use 1 or 2 peppers, we transfer the leftover to a glass jar with a lid and store the rest in the fridge for a few months!
- Chipotle Peppers
- Liquid Smoke
- Smoked Paprika
- And Cumin
Provide all the rich, smoky, barbecue flavour that makes this sauce sing!
Just 15 Minutes
- Combine all the ingredients in a saucepan
- Heat over medium low until the sauce starts to bubble
- Reduce the heat and simmer for 10 minutes to combine all the flavours
- Then blend the sauce for a smooth texture and enjoy!
