And Totally Customizable
Ingredients For This Easy Salsa
Grape and cherry tomatoes are not typically recommended for salsa because it’s too hard to remove their seeds. BUT… if life gives you tomatoes – make salsa! This easy grape tomato salsa is quite liquid if blended but I love the convenience of this recipe!
For this easy grape tomato salsa I use:
- 2 cups grape (or cherry) tomatoes
- Some red onion
- Fresh cilantro
- Lime juice (fresh or from concentrate)
- Some cumin, garlic powder, and chilli powder
- And some jalapeños for extra kick!
Feel free to change up the ingredients to your liking. Use fresh garlic instead of garlic powder, adjust the spice level, and throw in any other seasonings you love.
How To Make This Grape Tomato Salsa
Another way to customize this recipe to your liking, comes in how you prepare the salsa.
For a more liquid salsa:
Add all the ingredients to your blender and blend just enough to break down the tomatoes and combine all the flavours. Taste, adjust the seasonings if needed, and serve!
For a chunkier fresh salsa:
Chop all the ingredients by hand, slicing the tomatoes into quarters or smaller. Mix in the lime juice and seasonings. Stir, taste, and serve!
The texture for a chunkier salsa will end up similar to our Salsa Fresca (Pico De Gallo).
Recipe Cost
This homemade salsa recipe makes 400ml of salsa and costs us roughly: CAD $2.60. Buying 400ml of store-bought salsa can cost us anywhere from $1.60 – $4.
How does it keep?
This salsa is best enjoyed right away but I find that it will keep quite well in the fridge for up to 2 days. The tomatoes will continue to release excess water as the salsa sits.
Let me know in the comments below if you use some wonderful fresh grape or cherry tomatoes from your garden for this salsa!

Can the salsa be put in the freezer?
Kathryn Alexandre
I have never tried freezing it and I would suspect it will be quite watery when defrosted so you would have to strain the excess liquid but otherwise it should be fine to freeze. Even if it doesn’t make for the tastiest salsa afterward you could toss it into a pasta sauce so it doesn’t go to waste! Let me know if you give it a try and how it works out for you.
Harmony
I make this all the time and it’s my favorite salsa ever. It fits perfectly in my mini food processor. I do add a smidge more salt because my chili powder is salt free. I’ve not had all of the ingredients before and used dried cilantro and jalapeño hot sauce and it was equally as good.

First of all, you’re gorgeous. Second, nice salsa. Maybe roasted garlic instead of powder. I never thought about adding chili powder. That will work. Thanks, Kathryn.
Kathryn Alexandre
Thank you for the compliment and yes you can certainly add fresh garlic or even roasted for a stronger flavour. I’m glad you like the chili powder addition!
