Wondering how to make creamy oatmeal without using milk? Tahini is your answer! This maple tahini oatmeal recipe makes the creamiest oats you could desire and no milk is needed!
Incredibly creamy
Toasty maple flavour
A boost of protein
And ready in minutes
Ingredients
Only a few simple ingredients are needed for this quick breakfast recipe. To make two servings I use:
- One cup quick cooking oats
- Two cups filtered water
- A pinch of salt
- Two tablespoons tahini
- One tablespoon maple syrup
- Four chopped dates
- And a sliced banana
Optionally, you can easily stir in some flax or chia seeds or any other ingredients you love including in your oatmeal.
What Is Tahini
Tahini is one of my pantry staples and adds a boost of protein to any recipe. The food network has a great article on tahini and how to use it if it is a new ingredient for you.
You may know that tahini is a paste made from ground sesame seeds and is most commonly used for making hummus. But did you know that having tahini in your fridge gives you the ability to add this versatile ingredient to so many more recipes?
In addition to my hummus recipe, I most often use tahini in dressings. My Simple Lemon Tahini and Miso Maple Tahini dressings are my favourites to stir up in seconds! I drizzle them over salads, buddha bowls, and even fajitas!
You can try these delicious Chickpea Tahini Protein Balls too!
Recipe Cost?
This maple tahini oatmeal recipe makes two servings and costs us approximately $1.20 CAD or $0.60/serving! If we purchase our morning oatmeal from a cafe we can expect to pay at least $3 per bowl.
Before we began eating a plant based diet we nearly always had boxed cereal for breakfast but making oatmeal at home has been simple, delicious, and more cost effective. This recipe packs in some extra protein courtesy of the tahini and takes only 5 minutes to prepare.
BUT if you’re someone who struggles to find the time to make breakfast in the morning take a look at my video and guide for making overnight oats! You can combine all the ingredients for this recipe in a jar, put it in your fridge, and allow the oats to soak overnight. In the morning your breakfast will be ready and waiting for you to take it on the go!
Let me know if this maple tahini oatmeal recipe becomes a favourite of yours and if tahini is a staple in your pantry too!
