It's a classic for a reason! This dairy-free strawberry banana smoothie is the perfect refreshing summertime treat!

It's Sweet
Creamy
Frosty
And 3 Ingredients (plus some ice for extra frostiness)!

No Extra Sweetener

We tend to add a drizzle of maple syrup to most of our smoothies and smoothie bowls BUT...

This classic combo provides all the sweetness we need!

  • The bananas are frozen when they are at their sweetest ripeness
  • And the strawberries are the perfect summertime sweet berry

With that said... feel free to add any more sweetness you desire!

  • Using a vanilla flavoured plant milk will give this smoothie another sweet layer.
  • Fresh dates would add a caramel flavoured natural sweetness
  • And maple syrup is a quick, easy, and tasty pourable sweetener!

No Blender Option

If you don't have access to a blender enjoy these classic flavours the deconstructed smoothie way!

  1. Add the chopped bananas and strawberries to a bowl,
  2. Pour the milk over top,
  3. And garnish with some granola, chopped toasted nuts (like these toasty walnuts), chia seeds, hemp seeds, dried fruit, chocolate shavings or whatever else your heart desires!

Recipe Cost

Living in Ontario, Canada means that the cost of this dairy-free strawberry banana smoothie can vary quite a bit depending on the time of year and whether strawberries are in season.

With strawberries purchased from our wholesale store our cost is: CAD $4.84. That's $2.42 per smoothie.
And with strawberries purchased from our local grocery store and out of season our cost can rise to roughly: CAD $7.19 or $3.60/smoothie.

That's vs. at least CAD $4 each if we were to purchase smoothies from a cafe (regardless of the time of year). So making this tasty, quick, and easy classic smoothie at home is certainly a more cost effective option!

  • *Helpful tip: Never let your fresh berries go bad in your fridge! I always use to end up throwing out berries that had gone moldy. So... once you notice your berries are starting to turn...
    1. Slice them, or lay them whole in a single layer on a baking tray lined with wax paper or a silicone mat.
    2. And place the tray in your freezer for a couple of hours until the berries are frozen.
    3. Freezing them spread on a baking tray prevents them from clumping together when frozen.
    4. Making for easy scooping for all your smoothie creations!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 frozen bananas (or fresh)
  • 3 cups frozen strawberries (or fresh)
  • 1 cup oat milk (or plant milk of choice)
  • 1 cup ice cubes

*All the ingredients for this recipe are from our pantry and freezer tips!

Instructions

  1. Add all the ingredients to your blender.
  2. Pulse a few times to break down the frozen fruit and the ice cubes.
  3. Then blend until smooth!
  4. This smoothie will keep well in the fridge for a couple of days.

Notes

Approximate Cost: CAD $4.84 ($2.42/smoothie) using strawberries purchased from our wholesale store. If we purchase strawberries out of season from our local grocery store our price can increase to CAD $7.19 ($3.60/smoothie) vs. at least $4 for a smoothie purchased out.

If using both frozen banana and strawberries, you can replace the 1 cup of ice with extra milk for a less frosty, creamier texture. Alternatively, if using all fresh fruit you can replace the one cup plant milk with extra ice to create that frosty texture.
