If you have grown mint in a garden you know how quickly it spreads! I absolutely love mint and this is the first year I have grown it. Naturally, I had the thought... what happens if I blend mint into a matcha latte? It turns out... a whole lots of deliciousness! If you too have mint growing out of control then you have to try this mint matcha latte.
Delicious hot or cold
Uses fresh mint leaves
Refreshing flavour
And so much thriftier than cafe drinks!
Ingredients For This Mint Matcha Latte
This mint matcha latte is made with:
- Your milk of choice - ours is usually soy or oat.
- Fresh mint leaves - although you can use pure peppermint extract for a similar flavour.
- Maple syrup - our sweetener of choice.
- Vanilla extract - to boost up all of the flavours.
- Matcha powder - of course!
- And optionally... ice cubes if you are serving this one chilled.

Method
Typically, I whisk my matcha powder with hot water and some maple syrup when I add it to milk for my Quick At Home Matcha Latte and my Iced Matcha Latte recipes.
For this mint matcha recipe however, I use a blender. A blender will ensure that the fresh mint leaves break down fully so you get all the refreshing mint flavour you want without any pieces of leaf in your latte!
- You can add all of the ingredients to the blender at once but I like to blend everything except the matcha powder first. This way I can blend for as long as is needed to fully break down the mint leaves without risking any damage to the delicate matcha powder.
- Once the mint leaves are fully broken down, I add the matcha powder in and blend quickly to disperse the powder through the milk.
Finally, you can choose how you would like to serve your mint matcha.
- Pour it over ice for a refreshing chilled option.
- Alternatively, pour it into a small pot and heat over low until steam rises from the milk. Create extra foam by using an immersion blender or another frother. Hold the foam back with a spoon as you pour the hot mint matcha into your mug and scoop the foam on top.
Recipe Cost For A Mint Matcha
If you love ordering a matcha latte from a cafe but want to save a few bucks then definitely buy some matcha powder and start enjoying them at home.
For instance, this mint matcha recipe costs me about $1.30 Canadian to make at home. If I purchase a small matcha latte from a cafe it typically costs me upwards of $5!

Buying matcha powder can seem pricey but the savings will really add up compared to ordering your matcha from a cafe. If you have a membership to a wholesale store, see if they carry matcha powder. We used to buy our matcha powder from Costco but they have recently stopped selling it. Thankfully, we can find the same brand in the natural foods section of our local grocery store. It is slightly higher in price at our local grocery store but the overall savings are still worth it.
Let me know in the comments if you try this mint matcha latte recipe and if you add in your fresh mint from your garden!
