This hot pink apple beet smoothie bowl has a cinnamon spice flavour that will have you trying to recall what it reminds you of… the classic “cinnamon heart” candies! With just enough cinnamon spice, this smoothie bowl is perfect for fall! It’s:
Cinnamon Spiced
Stained Pink With A Sweet Roasted Beet
Made Frosty With Frozen Apple Slices
Creamy With Frozen Bananas
And Will Keep You Feeling Full With Rolled Oats!
Ingredients For This Apple Beet Smoothie Bowl
- A small or medium roasted beet (the bigger the beet the darker the colour!)
- Quick cooking oats
- Oat milk (or plant milk of choice)
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 frozen bananas
- And 2 cups frozen apple slices!
In order for smoothie bowls to keep a nice thick and frosty texture… frozen fruit is best.
*If you don’t have frozen apple slices and frozen banana, you can use fresh fruit, but try adding ½ – 1 cup of ice for a frostier texture. *You may want to start with less milk and add as needed to help the smoothie blend.
*With the addition of oats into this smoothie bowl, the texture is not super creamy and smooth. But we love that it feels more filling and has a cozier, fall taste with the thicker smoothie and the cinnamon spice. Adding toasted pecans or walnuts on top… brings the toasty fall feeling home!
*If you prefer an entirely smooth texture, try omitting the oats and adding fresh berries!
Roasted Beet
I know! Trust me, I thought it was weird too! But if you’ve read our post on How To Roast Beets or have taken a look at our decadent Chocolate Beet Smoothie, you will know that Bryan has a fondness for beets that drove him to toss one into a smoothie to see what happened. And… well…
Pretty tasty magic! That’s what happened!
Beets are a surprisingly sweet root vegetable. When roasted, their sweetness is amplified and they blend down into a wonderfully smooth texture. Roasted beets are a fantastic addition to pasta sauces like our Smoky Spicy Beet Pasta, smoothies, and desserts!
*We haven’t tried this particular smoothie bowl with a raw beet but we have experimented with blending raw beets before. It works, but just not as well in our opinion. The beet is not as sweet and flavourful and doesn’t blend as smoothly.
*Jump to our how to roast beets post for an easy walk through of how we always keep roasted beets in our fridge!
Frozen Apple Slices
I can’t believe I haven’t been freezing apples for years! Where we are in Ontario, Canada… we have a lot of local apples. They are available pretty much all year long and for this reason they are often on sale.
When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, we had bought a large bag of apples and realized we weren’t going to be able to eat our way through them in time. So… we sliced the apples up, froze them, and realized how well they freeze!
- Wash, core, and slice your apples.
- Toss them in a sprinkle of lemon juice (this isn’t absolutely necessary but will slow some browning).
- Lay the slices in a single layer on a baking tray with wax paper or a silicone mat.
- Place the tray in the freezer for a couple of hours until the slices are frozen.
- And transfer the slices to a freezer bag for longer storage.
*Freezing fruit, vegetables, and beans in a single layer on a baking tray before adding them to a freezer bag prevents them from clumping together! Easy scooping! No smashing a bag on the ground to try and break the pieces apart… yes… I may have been guilty of that in the past.
We use frozen apple slices for smoothies like this one, our Warm Skillet Cinnamon Apples, and even homemade applesauce!
Recipe Cost For Simple Apple Beet Smoothie Bowl
This recipe makes the base smoothie for two smoothie bowls and costs us approximately:
$2.19 CAD. That’s $1.10 each!
That means you can pile on the toppings, or even add some berries into the smoothie, and you are still saving quite a bit compared to a smoothie bowl purchased from a cafe (which would cost us at least $6 – $12 each)!

Description
This pink apple beet smoothie bowl reminds us of the classic “cinnamon heart” candies! A subtle cinnamon spice makes this perfect for fall!
Ingredients
- 1 small or medium sized roasted beet (the larger the beet the darker the colour will be)*
- 1 cup quick cooking oats
- 1 cup oat milk
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 2 frozen bananas
- 2 cups frozen apple slices
- optional toppings: diced apple, dried cranberries, toasted pecans or walnuts, and chia seeds!
*Fresh ingredients you need that are not part of our pantry and freezer tips.
Instructions
- Add all the ingredients to your blender.
- Pulse a few times to break down the frozen pieces. Then blend until smooth.
- Spoon into bowls and top with diced apple, cranberries, toasted pecans, chia seeds or however you desire!
Notes
*Approximate Cost: $2.19 CAD ($1.10 each) for the smoothie base. Even with the added toppings, this smoothie bowl recipe offers big savings compared to the $6 – $12 a smoothie bowl costs us if we purchase it out.
*Using fresh fruit will make a less frosty and thick smoothie. Try adding ½ – 1 cup ice cubes to thicken it. You can also start with less milk and add more as needed to help the smoothie blend.
*The rolled oats create a chunkier texture to this smoothie bowl but we love that it feels filling and cozy. For a completely smooth texture, feel free to omit the oats and sub with fresh berries.
*Using a peeled, raw beet is possible. It will just taste less sweet and result in a less smooth texture. We much prefer the taste and texture of a roasted beet.

Ashley
This is our favourite breakfast bowl! The flavour is soo good and I love the bright colour. Our toddler loves it too! The tip to roast a few beets at a time to keep on hand has been key for us too. It’s made meal planning and prep so much easier, so thank you!
Kathryn Alexandre
Yay for your toddler eating hidden veggies! haha I’m so glad you love this recipe Ashley. Thank you for letting me know that you found the tip for keeping roasted beets on hand helpful! I’ve actually been roasting and then freezing beets in small cubes lately. I have found huge bags of beets for just a few dollars so I’ve been freezing them and they are perfect to toss in smoothies or quickly defrost for power bowls, pastas etc.
